if you don't know what is VNC, please, first have a look at http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html author of this software may be reached at: email dspach@free.fr web http://dspach.free.fr what is needed (mandatory !): - Picasso96 V2 RTG software (Cybergraphics will not work !) - network connection (TCP/IP) with the remote machine - RTG compatible application (including WB) - Amiga with 040 or 060 CPU and working MMU installation: - install P96 with any video card driver (except uaegfx) - remove the installed video driver from DEVS:Monitors - copy from the supplied Monitors drawer the frame buffer of your choice, P96fb8 (8 bits), P96fb16 (16 bits) or P96fb32 (32 bits) into: SYS:Storage/Monitors - put the enclosed P96fb.card in LIBS:Picasso96 - put the Avnc file and it's icon wherever you want - see final tips below for more info ============================================== !!! WARNING: this is a preliminary version !!! !!! documentation is really minimal !!! !!! doc contributors welcome !!! ============================================== changes since beta 6 -------------------- - updated web & email adresses changes since beta 5 -------------------- - even more faster - support for multiple P96 frame buffers (8, 16, 32 bits) - support for 16 bits pixel transcoding - support for 8 bits server to 16 bits client pixel conversion - support for 8 bits depth client request on 16 bits server - support for 32 bits server with byte order but w/o pixel conversion - CTRL-keys are better handled - input events use tablet messages style by default changes since beta 4 -------------------- - faster and cleaner (well, I hope ...) - true server (i.e. relaunched on broken/closed connexions) - AppMenu entries to restart/quit network settings: ----------------- you may have to change your TCP/IP network settings in order that your machine accepts connexions on ports range 5900 up to 5999. Please refer to your TCP/IP software documentation for this. Most of the Amiga TCP/IP stack disallow non standart port numbers by default, so you will mostly have to change that. The port number used by the VNC server is the one defined in the Avnc icon tooltype, e.g. PORT=5904 setting the server password: ---------------------------- there are 2 tooltypes for the server password, the first one is PASSWORD with a readable form, and the second one is EPASSWORD which is an encrypted form of the former. To set up your server password, edit the Avnc tooltypes, remove EPASSWORD tooltype, change or create the PASSWORD tooltype. Then the first time you launch Avnc, it will encrypt your PASSWORD tooltype into a EPASSWORD tooltype and remove the unencrypted one (PASSWORD). Subsequent Avnc launches will then use the encrypted tooltype. NOTE: if Avnc is started from CLI instead of Workbench, the password is not stored anywhere using the server: ----------------- when you need to use the Avnc server, lauch the monitor (from SYS:Storage/Monitors), then launch Avnc start an RTG application and choose the screen mode "P96fb xxx" (you won't see it) connect a vnc client to the port you have have setup, type the right password, and then you may use your favorite Amiga software remotelly ! final tips: ----------- - multiple frame buffers are supported (i.e. like having more than one video card), however, as a start, choosing only one 16 bits frame buffer is the best recommended choice. To have simultaneously more than one frame buffer, you will have to specify the BOARD tooltype in the Avnc icon. In that case, you must put there the number of the board (use the checkboards tool from P96 to get it). See AvncBoardX.info icons. - you may change the frame buffer width and height changing the FBWIDTH and FBHEIGHT tooltypes of the monitor icon - not all tooltypes for the monitor or the VNC server are described in this documentation. This is normal, only the relevant one's are - the VNC server is able to cope with most known pixel conversions however, if it is not able to perform it, an error will be shown if you start the server from CLI - Avnc is a real server, that is, when the connnexion is broken or closed, it will restart, waiting for a new connexion. To restart it, use the Workbench Tool menu "VNC restart", to stop it completly, use the Workbench "VNC quit" or send the process a CTRL-C - use LAmiga-M to flip active screen and click on mouse, local or remote one, to set the active screen
